Matthew Stevens has collaborated with a number of contemporary music’s most exciting artists since arriving in NYC in 2007. In addition to his critically acclaimed solo albums, Woodwork and Preverbal, Stevens’ songs are featured on albums by Christian Scott, Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, Chris Turner (PHER), Erimaj, and by his band, Sixty, with Corey King and Eric Doob.
Stevens has worked as a guitarist with producers Quincy Jones, Glen Ballard and Tony Visconti. As a producer, he worked on Esperanza Spalding’s albums Exposure and 12 Little Spells, and on Terri Lyne Carrington’s Waiting Game, which featured guests such as Lalah Hathaway, Andrew Bird, Robert Glasper, Rapsody, Maimouna Youssef, Meshell Ndegeocello, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Kokayi, and Mumia Abul-Jamal.
Last year Stevens was invited by Spotify to a week long writing session at Jungle Studios in NYC to write songs and collaborate with Jamila Woods, Mereba, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Kacy Hill.
